Erectile Dysfunction Service (EDS)

If you have already obtained a private prescription from your GP, you may obtain your medication with our private prescription service at any of our Pharmacies.


  • Erectile Dysfunction affects around 2.3 million men in the UK.
  • Half of all men over 40 will experience Erectile Dysfunction at some point in their lives.
  • Only approximately 1 in 10 men seek help (source: BUPA)
  • Only 10% of GP´s appear to be routinely inquiring about Erectile Dysfunction
  • There are various causes of ED, however, most cases are due to narrowing of the arteries that take blood to the penis and can be treated, the most common being the taking of a tablet prior to sex.

Treatment for erectile dysfunction on the NHS

Men suffering from a specified medical condition are eligible to receive drug treatments for Erectile Dysfunction on the NHS. Other men can receive a private prescription from their own GP and will pay the full cost of any tablets prescribed.
The specified medical conditions are: diabetes, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, poliomyelitis, prostate cancer, prostatectomy (an operation to remove the prostate gland), radical pelvic surgery, renal failure treated by dialysis or transplant, severe pelvic injury, single gene neurological disease, spinal cord injury and spina bifida. A specialist can also prescribe drug treatments on the NHS if your condition causes severe distress in your life.

Erectile Dysfunction Service at Sedem Pharmacy

Sedem Pharmacy offer a confidential, discreet service with a specialised consultation prior to the dispensing any medication. Anyone who meets the Criteria can obtain treatment for Erecile Dysfunction. Our Accredited Pharmacist conducting the consultation has undergone training in the management of Erectile Dysfunction.

Appointments can be conducted at any of our Pharmacies (with the exception of Sedem Pharmacy Churchtown) please refer to the list of Pharmacies for address and contact details. Alternatively you can contact us via email and a member of the customer care team will contact you to make an appointment.

The Consultation

  • You will complete an initial assessment in order to ensure your suitability to continue with the treatment.
  • You will be provide with any necessary information.
  • The most suitable medication for your condition will be discussed and dispensed.
  • If the initial assessment proves you to be unsuitable for the service, the Pharmacist may refer you to your GP and notify them of their findings.

  • In order to meet the criteria you will need to answer the following questions:

  • Do you have difficulty walking a mile in 20 minutes or climbing 2 flights of stairs without getting chest pain or short of breath?
  • Do you take nitrates which are tablets or sprays used to treat angina or chest pain?
  • Do you take tablets to treat an enlarged prostate?
  • Do you ejaculate prematurely?
  • Do you suffer from lack of sexual desire of lack of interest in sex?
  • Do you know if you suffer from any of the following?
  • High Blood Pressure
  • Raised Cholesterol
  • Diabetes
  • Low Testosterone
  • Enlarged Prostate
  • Major abdominal or pelvic surgery, including prostate operations.
  • Do you have difficulty in getting or maintaining an erection?
  • Does the problem occur on all or nearly all occasions?
  • Can you achieve good erections with masturbation?
  • Do you experience regular night time or morning erections?

Please note:

If you answer Yes to number 1, 2, or 3 you will not be able to be treated following the consultation and will referred to your GP.

Treatments Available

Depending on the outcome of your consultation you will be prescribed with one of the following medications:

  • Viagra
  • Levitra
  • Cialis
